Oxymorons 4th - 6th Grade

The Oxymorons are an energetic, lively bunch of 4th to 6th graders at First Congregational Church.  The youth group was named by one of its original members.  "We are all one in Christ's family - but we are each unique individuals."

Oxys vote to hold a used toys garage sale to purchase a well for a community in Timor-Leste, IndonesiaOur Oxys are an active group of Christian youth in grades 4 through 6. They go on outings and do service projects. Of course, older and younger siblings are welcome to join in the group activities. During the school year, the Oxys are involved in a number of fun and service activities.

Each year the Oxys choose a project through the Christian Children's Fund and hold a Children's Garage Sale, contributing their outgrown toys, games and books to the sale to raise funds for their project.  They have given their funds to school children in Afghanistan for school supplies, families in Uganda to buy pigs, to help babies in Sierra Leone with the purchase of mosquito netting, and to buy a water well for a village in Indonesia.

Having lunch before an Oxy outingThe Oxys also have fun swimming, sledding, and have gone out to lunch together. They've even performed at the church auction!

The Oxys have also filled Easter baskets for Alaska Children's Services kids, baked cookies for the homeless, and have collected big cans of fruits and vegetables - to give to Elgin Jones, founder of Kids' Kitchen, on his birthday each year. Oxys making signs for Kids Kitchen can collection

The Oxys have taken enormous pride in discovering how much they can contribute to the church and the community - and have had a great time doing just that!
